Copyright policy
StudyWire · Recovery Transparency Technologies LLC · effective 2026-10-25 · the Copyright policy is part of the Terms of service
What StudyWire does with your material
- Your material is private. It is shown back to you, and — if you upload it inside a class — to the students and instructor of that one class. It is never published, listed, searchable by other users, or offered to anyone else.
- Excerpts of it go to the AI services named in the privacy policy only to answer your own question or write your own quiz, under terms that forbid training on them.
- We do not inspect uploads for ownership and we do not decide fair use for you. The person who uploads is the person responsible.
What you agree to when you upload
- You upload only material you own or are allowed to use for your own study, and you affirm this the first time you upload (the affirmation is recorded with its date and the version of this policy).
- You are solely responsible for what you upload. If a claim is made against Recovery Transparency Technologies LLC because of your upload, you will cover the cost of answering it (indemnity), to the extent the law allows.
- We may remove material and, for repeat infringement, close the account, as described below.
“I own this material or have the right to use it for my own study — a textbook I bought, notes I wrote, slides or recordings my instructor gave the class. I will not upload anything I am not allowed to, and I accept responsibility for what I upload, as the Copyright policy and the Terms describe.”
Reporting an infringement (DMCA notice)
If you own a copyright and believe material in StudyWire infringes it, send a notice to our designated agent:
705 Orchard Ave, Wilmington, NC 28403, USA
Email: jeremy.heydon@transparencytechnologies.ai
Telephone: +1 910-333-2788
Listed in the U.S. Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory as DMCA-1084638.
Under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) a notice must include:
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed (or a representative list)
- where it is in StudyWire — a course, a file name, an account — enough for us to find it (material is private, so tell us what you know)
- your name, address, telephone number and email address
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner
- your physical or electronic signature
What happens next
- On a complete notice we disable or remove the material promptly (our aim: within two business days) and tell the uploader why, with a copy of the notice.
- The uploader may send a counter-notice: their name, address, phone and email; the material and where it was; a statement under penalty of perjury that they believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for their address (or any court where we may be found, if outside the United States); and their signature.
- On a valid counter-notice we forward it to the person who sent the notice; unless they tell us within ten business days that they have filed a court action, we restore the material between ten and fourteen business days after the counter-notice.
- Repeat infringement: two complete notices against one account in twelve months that are not withdrawn or answered by counter-notice close the account; one is enough when the upload is plainly a copy made for distribution rather than study.
- Knowingly false notices and counter-notices carry liability under 17 U.S.C. §512(f). Send them only when you mean them.
Fair use and your own books
Studying from a textbook you bought, with notes you wrote, is what StudyWire is for. We cannot tell you whether a particular use is fair use; that depends on the material and the use, and only you know both. When in doubt, ask the person who gave you the material, or your library.
